Who needs printed Christmas boxes
Online gift shops are the biggest group. December can be their strongest month, and a festive box adds to the sense of occasion for each order.
Bakeries, chocolate makers and candle studios order them for holiday gift sets. Corporate gift teams use them for client and staff presents sent to many addresses.
Subscription brands print a special December edition too. A seasonal box makes the holiday month feel different from the other eleven without changing the product inside.
Each group has a different deadline. Gift shops need boxes before the first big sale weekend, while corporate teams often work to an office party or year-end date.
Working back from your last shipping day
The most important date is the last day you can post orders to arrive before Christmas. Every other date is counted back from that one.
Courier networks are busy in December, so add a margin on top of normal timings. Our box delivery and shipping policy sets out the transit times for the boxes themselves.
Write these dates on a calendar the day you decide to order. It turns a vague plan into a clear deadline for your artwork.
- Find the last day you can post customer orders for Christmas delivery.
- Count back the days you need to pack and send all your holiday orders.
- Subtract 2 to 3 business days for your boxes to reach you.
- Subtract 4 to 6 business days of production.
- Allow a few days for proof changes and your approval.
- The date you land on is when your artwork and quote request should reach us.
Christmas only or a winter design
A box covered in Christmas trees has a short life. After the holiday, leftover stock is hard to use until next year.
A winter design with snowflakes, pine or a simple foil star can stay in use into January. It still feels seasonal without naming the holiday.
Some brands print a small Christmas run and a larger neutral run. If you sell around several holidays, our holiday mailer box designs show artwork that works across the season.
| Design approach | How long it stays usable | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Christmas imagery and greetings | December only | Gift shops with a set holiday run |
| Winter theme, no greeting | November to February | Brands that sell into January |
| Brand box plus Christmas sticker | All year | Small runs and tight budgets |
| Brand box with festive inside print | December, outside reusable look | Brands keeping their usual outside |
Festive colors, foil and finishes
Deep red, forest green and gold are the classic palette. Pantone inks keep those colors rich, which matters because festive reds can print orange in CMYK.
Gold or silver foil on a star, a logo or a greeting catches light under a tree. Spot UV over a pattern of snowflakes gives a quieter shine.
Glitter-heavy artwork rarely prints the way it looks on screen. Foil gives a cleaner sparkle and stays sharp on a folded box.
For a rustic look, white ink on kraft with a single red accent works well. Browse our board colors and finish options to see each one on real boxes.
A gift message inside the lid
The inside lid is where a Christmas box feels personal. A short greeting printed there is the first thing seen when the box opens.
Gift shops often add a printed to and from panel. Customers sending a present can write names by hand, and it saves you adding a separate tag to each order.
Keep the message general enough for every recipient. Warm wishes for the season suits more people than a joke that only some will share.
Leave enough blank space for handwriting if you add a to and from panel. A ballpoint pen needs more room than most designers expect.
When the mailer is the gift wrap
Some customers put a Christmas mailer straight under the tree. That only works if nobody sticks a shipping label over the design.
If your orders go direct to the recipient, a printed festive box is the wrapping. If the buyer receives it first, consider an outer carton so the gift box arrives clean and unmarked.
An outer also hides the contents from curious family members. Our Christmas shipping cartons for gift orders are sized to hold a festive mailer inside.
Ask your customers at checkout if the order is a gift. That one question tells you which orders need the outer carton.
Corporate gift boxes sent to many addresses
Office gift programs send the same box to dozens or hundreds of people. Speed of packing and identical results matter more than variety.
A tray insert holds each item in its place, so every box looks the same when opened. A self seal strip saves the gift team from taping each one.
Gift teams often need a personal card in each box. A flat slot in the insert keeps the card visible and stops it sliding under the products.
The company logo usually sits on the lid, with a holiday message inside. Our page on branded kit and gift mailers covers multi-item layouts in more detail.
A December edition for subscription boxes
Subscribers notice when the December box looks different. A seasonal outer or a festive inside print marks the month without new packaging logistics.
Keep the same box size and insert as the rest of the year. Only the artwork changes, so your packing routine stays the same.
Plan the December design when you place your autumn order. Details on regular monthly boxes are on our custom subscription box page.
Holiday box mistakes we see every year
These come up every season, usually because the order was rushed. Each one is avoidable with a little planning.
Most of them trace back to a late start. Ordering early gives you time to fix any of them on the proof.
- Sending artwork in December and missing the shipping cutoff
- Reds that print brownish because they were set in CMYK only
- A greeting that names Christmas on boxes meant for January too
- Gift sets that do not fit because an extra item was added late
- Over-ordering a dated design that cannot be used next year
- No space left for the shipping label on a busy all-over pattern
