Skincare sellers who mail lotion every week
Body care brands are the main buyers of this box. They ship body lotion, hand cream, after-sun gel and baby lotion to online customers.
Small batch makers order it too. A maker pouring whipped body butter into jars needs a box that keeps lids level and screw caps tight.
Spas and salons use it for retail orders placed after a visit. Their clients expect the parcel to match the treatment room.
Subscription boxes for self-care often include a lotion as the anchor item. The curator needs a box that holds a full-size bottle beside smaller samples.
Each of these buyers sends something that can leak. That single fact shapes every choice on this page, from board to closure.
Pumps, flip caps and jars each fail differently
A pump bottle is the riskiest container you can mail. Pressure on the head pushes product up the tube and out of the nozzle.
A flip cap tube fails at the hinge when it is squeezed from the side. A jar fails when it sits on its lid and the seal is pushed loose.
The box cannot fix a weak closure. It can stop the forces that make a closure leak, which is what the insert is for.
Tell us which closures you use when you request a quote. The same bottle can need a different insert with a disc cap versus a pump.
| Container | Main risk in transit | Insert we suggest |
|---|---|---|
| Pump bottle | Head pressed down, nozzle leaks | Cradle that holds the bottle below the pump |
| Flip cap tube | Side squeeze opens the hinge | Flat slot with a lip under the cap |
| Screw cap jar | Lid works loose upside down | Round cutout that keeps the jar base down |
| Airless bottle | Long body tips and rolls | Full-length channel with end stops |
| Mixed set | Items hit each other | Separate cutout for every piece |
Upright or lying flat in the box
Tall pump bottles usually ship lying flat. A flat bottle gives a shallow mailer that costs less to post and stacks well in a mail bag.
Jars and short tubes ship upright. The base takes the load, and the lid stays on top where gravity helps it seal.
If you sell a duo, one flat and one upright can share a box. The insert simply has two cutout depths.
Sizing a shallow flat mailer is easier with our guide to measuring mailer box sizes, which covers inner and outer dimensions.
A flat bottle still needs end stops. Without them it slides lengthwise and the pump head hits the end wall on every bump.
Upright bottles need a box with enough headroom above the cap. We leave a small gap so a pressed lid never touches the pump.
Choosing board for the weight of liquid
Lotion is heavy for its size. A 250 ml bottle weighs far more than an empty box suggests on a screen.
For one small tube or a travel bottle, 18–24 pt SBS paperboard is enough. It folds crisply and prints sharp color.
For full-size pumps, sets or glass jars, choose E-flute corrugated. Its fluted core spreads the load from a dropped parcel.
Our comparison of corrugated and paperboard mailer board explains where each one stops being safe.
Glass jars of body butter are the heaviest case we see. For those, B-flute corrugated adds a thicker wall at a small cost in box depth.
Weight also changes postage. A paperboard mailer for a single tube can keep a parcel in a lighter postal band.
Printing that survives a greasy thumbprint
Lotion boxes get handled by people with lotion on their hands. Uncoated board soaks up oil and shows dark marks.
Gloss or matte lamination puts a film over the print, so a smear wipes off. Soft-touch feels pleasant but shows fingerprints more than gloss does.
Inside printing is worth a look here. A pale tint inside the lid hides any residue if a cap does weep.
- Lamination on the outside for wipe-clean panels.
- A light inside color to hide small marks.
- Ingredient highlights or usage steps printed on the inner flap.
- Spot UV on the logo only, so the rest stays matte.
- White ink on kraft for a natural skincare look.
Seal the bottle before it reaches the box
A good insert does most of the work. A few cheap steps at your packing bench do the rest.
Twist pumps into the locked position before packing. Add a strip of shrink band or tape around flip caps that open easily.
Put each jar in a small poly bag if the lid has no inner seal. If one leaks, the bag keeps the lotion off the print.
Ask your filler or bottle supplier whether your pumps have a lock. Many do, and customers rarely notice the extra twist.
Wipe the outside of every bottle before packing. A thin film of lotion on the bottle will transfer to the insert and look like a leak.
Gift sets and seasonal lotion bundles
Lotion sells well as a gift paired with a body wash, a scrub or a candle. Those sets need a wider box with a divided insert.
Put the lotion at the front of the insert so it is the first thing seen when the lid lifts. Lighter items can sit behind it.
If your bundles change each season, keep one printed outer box and swap only the insert. That avoids reprinting every panel.
Many skincare brands that sell candles too pair this box with our candle shipping boxes for glass jars in the same order.
Travel kits are another popular build. Three or four small tubes sit side by side in a slim mailer. That shape can often fit through a letterbox.
Proof, print and delivery dates
Once your artwork is in, we send a free digital proof with the insert drawn in place. You can ask for changes as many times as you need.
Production takes 4–6 business days after you approve. Delivery then takes 2–3 business days, with free shipping to the US, UK, Canada and Australia.
Prices start from $0.30 per unit, and your quote confirms the final figure for your size, board and finish. You can start one on our mailer box quote request form.
Tell us your launch date when you order. We can plan the proof stage around it so printed boxes land before your stock does.
If a box arrives damaged or misprinted
Check the first carton of boxes as soon as it arrives. Fold one up and drop a filled bottle into the insert.
If you find misprints or transit damage, report them within 10 days. We reprint or refund, as set out in our reprint and refund policy for orders.
Keep flat boxes in a dry spot away from bathroom humidity if you pack in a salon or spa. Damp board loses its fold strength.
Help with lotion box artwork
You do not need a finished dieline to begin. Send your logo, brand colors and bottle size, and our team lays out the panels for you.
If you want to sketch ideas first, you can plan your lotion box design online and send it with your request.
